   Each year, the Chapter dynamically exposes 60 young people from underrepresented communities to the exciting world of Aviation and STEM through our award winning, hands on-minds on Gen Fig Newton Aviation Camp and the Col Alvin Drew Space Camp.  We also present STEM Programs at schools and other venues reaching over 1000 students in Mid-High School each year.

General Lloyd W. “Fig” Newton was commander of Air Education and Training Command, headquartered at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas. As commander, he was responsible for the recruiting, training, and education of Air Force personnel. His command included AF Recruiting Service, two numbered air forces and Air University. He completed pilot training at Williams AFB, AZ in June 1967 and then attended F-4D qualification training at George AFB, CA. He flew 269 combat missions in South Vietnam including 79 missions over North Vietnam. He was the first African American to be selected to join the USAF Thunderbirds Aerial Demonstration Squadron in November 1974 and held several positions including narrator, slot pilot, and right wingman. General Newton commanded three wings and an air division, and held numerous staff positions and served as Director of Operations, J-3, and United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) from 1993-1995. The general was a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours in the T-37, T-38, F-4, F-15, F-16, C-12 and F-117 stealth fighter. “What’s the most important four-letter word in the English language?
